CATALOG DESCRIPTION/OVERVIEW Introduction of philosophy, objectives and conceptual framework of Maricopa Community College District Nursing Program (MCCDNP).  Included orientation to the guidelines and procedures of Maricopa county community College District Nursing Program.  Emphasis on nursing process. Review and evaluation of practical nursing skills.  Designed for transfer student, returning students, and practical nurses entering District Nursing Program.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The student will be provided the opportunity to:

1. Describe the philosophy and purpose of the MCCDNP.
2. Explain the policies of the MCCDNP.
3. Submit a nursing plan of care based on application of the nursing process.
4. Demonstrate selected practical nurse skills according to specified criteria.

A. Nasogastric tube insertion
B. 12 Lead EKG placement
C. Sterile technique including dressing changes and catheterization
D. Tracheal Suctioning
E. IV Insertion and Maintenance
F. Phlebotomy
G. Central Line Dressings
 

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Successful completion of NUR214 OP requires that the student:

1. Submit a nursing plan of care that demonstrates understanding of the nursing process.
2. Perform selected skills.
3. Attendance for all class days is required.

Lecture/Laboratory

Students are responsible for their own professional behavior.    This includes:
1. Being punctual for laboratory and remaining for the entire laboratory experience
2. Giving evidence of being prepared for laboratory activities.
3. Being accountable for own behavior and behavior toward others.

Return demonstrations will be done on video tape.  During taping, you are not to receive assistance nor re-tape any portion of the procedure.  Only the following Brand name tapes with the noted time lengths should be used in our cameras—120 Maxwell, t-120 Scotch, T-120 TDK, and T-120 Sony.
