PHYSICALLY-CHALLENGED STUDENTS

What systems are available to meet the needs of students who are physically challenged?

In cooperation with GCC's Disabled Student Resources Department, the HTCs strive to provide excellent customer service to physically-challenged students. Specialized computer systems are available in HT1 to meet our students' needs.

 CLOSED CAPTIONED TELEVISION (CCTV)

This device permits printed documents (books, class handouts, class notes, etc.) to be magnified on a TV monitor many tiems larger than the original text.

 VISTA

When activated, VISTA spftware package produces a large print of the text being displayed on the computer monitor. VISTA is used by visually-impaired students who cannot read standard size print.

 VERT

This software package, when activated, produces synthetic speech which provides an audio version of the visual display. With adequate training, this software can be used by blind and visually-impaired students; it could also be helpful to learning-impaired students.

 VERSAPOINT

A specialized printer, VERSAPOINT, produces a tactile version (braille) of text.

 STICKY KEYS

This software package eliminates the multiple key stroke commands common in many word processor, database, and spreadsheet software products. It is very helpful to mobility-impaired individuals who have use of only one hand or finger.
