World renown sculptor and mathematician Dr. Helaman Ferguson unveiled his 1000 pound granite sculpture in The Math Solution on April 27, 2001.  This page and the following links attempt to capture the essence of the events related to the sculpture via many photographs and a few words.  The following words are etched on the sculpture in order to describe the mathematical concepts present in the sculpture: "points, lines, planes, angles, spheres, surfaces… and no end in sight ... symmetry ~D4 ... K < 0 negative gaussian curvature."

Prior to the unveiling, there was a ceremony dedicating the new Mathematics building.  After the unveiling, a formal presentation was given by Helaman and writer Claire Ferguson which described the aesthetics, the mathematics and the sculpture techniques in many of his famous sculptures.  The final event that evening was the GCC Open House, which showcased a handful of newly constructed buildings on campus to the general public.
