Exams:
There will be 3 exams worth 100 points each. Schedule for the hourly exams:
  • Friday, September 26
  • Friday, October 31
  • Monday, December 15, Final exam 11:00am to 12:50pm
Missed exams:  There will be no make-up exams, unless I approve of your situation prior to the scheduled exam.  Contact me immediately (on the day of the exam) by phone or email if you miss an exam, and give me a phone number so that I can contact you.

Homework: Many problems of all sections will be required. These will be collected on exam days and they will be worth a total of 45 points (15 points for each of the 3 exams).  These should be neatly done (showing important steps) on loose leaf paper with your name on it.  Mathematics is not a spectator sport, doing the homework is important.
Homework Assignments are on the web at http://glory.gc.maricopa.edu/~tfoley/classes/homework142.htm
Grading: 90 - 100% A,  80 - 89.9% B,   70 - 79.9% C,   60 - 69.9% D,   below 60% F

Total points (345): 3 Exams = 300 pts,    Homework = 45 pts

VIP Resource:  The Math Solution offers free drop-in tutoring to all GCC math students at the North end of the Math building (MA).  This is a super resource which includes faculty and student tutors, who are there to help you as you work on your homework.  Use it!   They are open from 8 am to 8:30 pm on MTWR,   8 am to 4 pm on Friday, and  10am to 2pm on Saturday.   I'll be there 2 - 3 pm on Tuesdays.
Withdrawal/Attendance: If a student misses 3 classes, the student may be withdrawn from the course by the instructor. Please contact me if you are going to miss a few classes. If you work with me, I'll try to work with you.  It is the responsibility of the student to make sure that they have been withdrawn from the class.  If you miss a class, please read over the next couple of sections in the book and try to do some of the homework problems.  In addition, get notes from a fellow student and/or get some help in the Math Solution.  In most cases in a math class, if you do not understand one section, then it is very likely you will not understand the next section, thus you could have trouble with many subsequent sections.  It is extremely important that you attend class and keep up with the homework.  If you have trouble with some material, get help as soon as you can.
  • It is the responsibility of the student for the information in this syllabus, together with the policies in the GCC college catalog and the GCC student handbook
  • Course content and policies may vary, with appropriate notice, according to the needs and circumstances of the class.
  • Please check with an advisor for more information on whether this is the appropriate class if you plan to transfer to another university.
  • Any student is welcome to meet with me to discuss reasonable accommodations for a disability, and/or contact Disability Services.
  • Audio/video taping of class material is not permitted without written permission from the instructor.
  • Mobile phones, games, and music players should be turned off.  Computers should be turned off if they are not part of the class.
  • Cheating will result in a failing grade for the course and removal from class.  If caught cheating, no sniveling is allowed!
  • Note: These True Type fonts are represented by a set of third degree polynomials that are pieced together.
